busted push rod

hello, this past weekend I had my oliver 77 at a tractor pull and it started popping threw the carb. So we loaded it up and brought it home.
Upon disassembly we found an exhaust push rod had busted in half and the intake push rod to that cylinder got bent. We tore the engine
further down to inspect the lifters and found that the exhaust lifter had a crack in it. There is no other damage that i can find the cam
looks good the valves and lifters all move freely in there bore. Has any one else seen anything like this or have any idea what caused it?

They are 77 valve springs if I remember correctly. The engine has been together for 3 years now. Are you thinking to much spring pressure??

I had a very similar situation with a Ferguson To-20. Was rebuilt and after a couple of years a push rod broke. Tore the head off and replaced it. Maybe a year later the same thing happened with another push rod. Replaced that one also. Been fine for about three years now. Luckily it is a pretty easy fix. I just wonder if the stress of more compression with the rebuild finds a weakness in the old pushrods...
