77 brake identification

The right brake I think is getting worn and will need replaced. I have an Oliver 77 Row Crop with serial number 342443 which makes it a 1951. Which from what I read is a drum brake model. Though I have also read when you have a stamped steel cover with bolts around the edge (which I have) that means disk brakes.

Did some 1951 tractors come with disk brakes? Is the stamped steel cover not a disk or band indicator? As far as I know that is how it came from the factory but I can't say for 100% that there wasn't a conversion.

Putting in a picture of what the brake looks like, this is the left side.

You have band brakes. There were 2 styles of brake linings for those. In this day & age there is probably only one style out there. You have the second style. Disk brakes have a cast housing and a cast cover held on by 3 - 1/2 inch bolts.

Disc brakes came out in the second half of 51 on the 88s. The 77s didn't have them until the first one serial numbered as a 52. There were some exceptions though that are know to exist. Disc brakes didn't come out on the 66s until close to mid 52.

Thank you for the help. I was hoping I was going to have disk as it seems that the bands are hard to find and mostly need to be resurfaced. Not that I can't do it, just would be easier if I didn't need the extra steps.

The things we do for love. :)
