The Oliver 1655 I recently purchased does not have a thermostat, should it have one and if so why would one be missing on it? Thanks

with out a bypass like a heater I don't know why it would. Stuck closed it would over heat...stuck open what.. no heat in the cab when there is no cab or heater? If it was closed and pumping it would probably not be good for the pump...but I really don't know what temp are they supposed to run at?

It's not like newer engines that must run at certain temps. The only downside could be using more gas but that would mean leaving it choked which you control.

I read in a tech article once that removing the thermostat can actually cause overheating. The coolant can flow fast enough that it doesn't have time to absorb heat from the engine.
