88 vs 1600 engine

Just spit balling again. I was loading up the tractors to come home from a show today and a woman and her son came up to me. We got talking and she said her dad had an 88 gas. Apparently there had been some kind of family squabble and somebody had taken a sledge hammer to it out of spite. She said the block had a hole knocked in it. She said her dad just wanted them to take it to the scrap yard. She said she didn't want to do it if somebody could fix it or use it for parts.

I've got an engine here out of a 1600 gas. It was in pieces when I got it,so I don't even know how complete it is. Are there any parts that are the same in those two engines so I could take two and make one if I come up short on what I have for my 1600 engine?

Depending on what series 1600 you have, will be 230 CI or 248 CI. 88 was 230 CI. Engine should bolt up no problem. 1600 may have hydrapower. If so, may not fit in 88 chassis. Otherwise should be able to put 1600 engine in 88 with 88 bellhousing/flywheel.

I don't really know John. I haven't seen the 88 to know where or how it's smashed. I've used some of the rocker parts off the 1600 engine. When I got it at an auction, the owner's son said he didn't remember what had happened to it,whether the block or the head was cracked or just what the deal was. I couldn't see any big obvious cracks in the block. Trouble right now is,all those engine parts are back in the corner of the toolshed behind the 70 with a bunch of other parts piled on top of them.

Send me an e-mail and I will tell you a little story. We took a 1600 and an a Super 88 and made one engine. It was around till 2 years ago, I put brakes on it then. Since then the owner died and I don't know if his kids kept the tractor or not
