I am thinking about looking at an Oliver 1855 Gas with a Koyker loader. It looks really nice it has the hydra shift in it. I never had an Oliver so don't know much about them. Wondering what you guys think. Thank you.

Gas version is a good tractor. A little thirsty, but a good tractor none the less. It's the diesel version that was a problem child.

I like mine (1850)...it's an old tractor, most parts are around, but the cost adds up and a newer less needed one might be a better purchase if the price is dearish.

Mine hasn't needed much and cost 4500

They free wheel in low side on the hydra power. I had an 1800C diesel and liked it. If I could have found someone to overhaul the motor I would still have it.

Randy--my new to me 1650 gas seems to run near the high mark on the normal range--the heat gage. Thanks for the info. on Ron; his boy called me.
Radiator is clean on the outside.

if it's good that's a good price for any tractor loader in that size. Like I said, if it isn't, the costs add up. Dual's included?

search on line for equal units...I haven't seen one less than twice that much.

Not familiar with that loader

My 1550 got to overheating bad just raking hay with it. The tubes were plugged on the inside. Some places can boil them out. I just put the radiator out of a 1600 parts tractor in that one. My 2-105 was doing it,I had Freeman in Greenville re core that one. The 2-135 was doing it this spring. I didn't have time to mess with a re core so I just put a new one in that. I ran vinegar in that one for a week last fall while I was chopping corn. It helped a little, but not enough.

If it's not done already, first thing I'd do is put an external spool valve on for the loader. I put one on my 1755 and it's great. Not only does it free up the tractor valves for other work, but the tractor valves aren't the best setup for loader work. Just remember, an 1855 will be a closed-center system. Make sure the filter is clean/changed regularly and it will give you great service.

True, the "under" on the hydralshift will free-wheel, but as long as you're expecting it, you learn to live (or not-die) with it.

Also, the hydraulic brakes are a huge improvement over the 00/50 series tractors.

But as others said, tune it up and it won't be as thirsty, but as a gas, it will start easy in the winter.

Good luck whatever you decide, but that's a lot of tractor (and loader) for that price. Even if you're unhappy with it later, I doubt you will be out anything for trying it.
