Based on a comment by John S on another post, I am curious what is the difference between the 354 Turbo and 372 engines other than cubic displacement. The reason for asking is that I have the 372 engine and I could put it into my 1955 chassis or use it to replace a weak 310 in another 1855. This 1855 is our loader tractor and usually does not get a lot of hard work with a loader on the front and a forklift on the back. Is the 372 engine more geared to the lessor hp needed for my loader tractor or will it perform like a workhorse for the heavier 1955. It is a combine engine and most of these have to run full throttle all the time. I already have the tub etc in a junk 1850 along with a spare early 354 Oliver engine for parts. Do I hold off and power the 1955 chassis with a cummins?

Shoot, just hang a charger on the 372, will work fine IF you don't get crazy with the max fuel setting. M&W Gear had turbo kits for the MF 750 with the 372 to increase the power enough to unload the grain tank on the go. Just be aware the 354 turbo engine does have a hardened crank, exhaust valve seats, and oil pressure to the piston pin bushings the 372 won't have. Keep the fuel close to stock and it will live just fine.

Start marrying up the 1850 and 1955. I'd love to do one of those and build what would essentially be a White 2-85 with Oliver sheet metal. If you have the parts, the cost won't even be a factor.

No, 372 has dry sleeves similar to the 354. 372 is 3 15/16 inch bore, 354 is 3 7/8 inch bore. The 4.236 had the same sleeve as the 354, and the 4.248 used the 372 sized sleeve.

My neighbor is a mechanic and he put added a turbo to a 372 and put it into a White 2-150. Runs good.
