hydra power front seal

We have the engine out of my son's 1650 to put a clutch in. I would like to replace the front seal on the hydra power as it looks a little oily (the engine seal is dry). I did a clutch on a 1650 a year ago and replaced the seal. I can't get the front shaft out more than an a half an inch on this one. My memory isn't what it used to be but I don't recall any problems like that.

You did not say early or late 1650 and the clutches are also different, but the front seal is in the support for the throw out bearing carrier which comes right off the front. If you want to pull the front shaft you need to remove the counter shaft and let the lower shaft down. There are also differences in early and late hydra-power units as well. It has been 41 years since I have done a hydra-power and I have forgotten some items as well. Check to see if you need to install a hard replaceable set for the lube spring plunger too. Questions send me an e-mail. J.

I was trying to get the front support off. I even tried putting a little pressure on it and hitting the shaft with a soft face hammer. I know the other one came off easily.
