1650 clutch

I have a 1650 diesel with a clutch that don't release. Something popped and it wouldn't stop. I am guessing one of the pressure plate fingers
broke. I have not worked on Olivers much. This one was the only one around when it was new. What is the best way to get to the clutch?

Since you're new to this,

Pull the PTO shaft first. It's a wet clutch and when you pull the cover some rear end oil will drain out. There is a snap ring holding that clutch bell and you may be able to see it or you may have to turn it a little. You pull that outer bell and the shaft comes with it.

It is hydrapower drive. I am surprised as it is a low hour tractor. It has had a hard life when it was used the first 3 or 4 years of it's life. It has set in the barn most of the time since about 1970. It was bought new in 1967. According to the ser. number it is a 1966 model. Neighbor bought it and 2 or 3 years later had a heart attack and his son farmed 1 year with it. Old man eventually died. I had to wait for his wife to pass to get the tractor. I also got a 565 4 bottom semi mount plow and a 10 ft. disc, both in like new condition. The disc has 20" blades that have not been replaced, so, it hasn't had a lot of use. I think it was bought new in Seymour, In. Was Cordes Hardware the dealer there?

I wonder if the fork broke on the throwout bearing? Don't those have an inspection cover on the top of the bell housing?

Thanks, I will look. I hadn't thought of that. Not very experienced on Olivers, mostly JD's and IH's. There is a lot I don't know about them. I used to work for a Massey dealer back about 40 yrs ago.

I've had both happen. The fork broke on the 1550 and the pressure plate fingers wore through on the 1600.

When you replace the clutch, don't put in the three finger clutch cover. Use the multi finger one. That model Oliver has a habit of breaking the three finger release rocker or stud.

Got mine from North American Clutch and Driveline.
