I know of a nice Oliver 1855 diesel that has the rod through the block. I can get it very reasonable. I know of a Perkins 354 out of a MF combine I can buy pretty cheap too. I know the Oliver 1850s used the Perkins motor. What would I run into putting the 354 Perkins into where the 310 Waukesha motor was???

The front tub is different on the 1850 diesel. Also the combine engine mounts different than the Perkins in an 1850. Is this a 354 Turbo engines or one of those Perkins 372 combine engines? There was a very well done conversion like that at Yoder & Frey. Best conversion Like that I ever saw!

What you need to find is an 1850 with a bad rear end. Marry those two halves up and you've got a White 2-85 with Oliver sheet metal.

It could be made to work, but would take a little doing. It will be similar to the 5.9 cummins repowers. To get the engine in the tractor, you could either use an 1850 tub, or I think you could use the aftermarket motor mounts that would put a 5.9 into the 1855 tub. Then you would need the flywheel and bellhousing from the 1850. Then some work to get the linkages right, and exhaust and intake through the hood. It could be done, and would probably be a good tractor when finished. You will have some time and money in it though. From reading your posts you have mostly Deere it seems, but do have a 1655. I have a 1655 and 1855. I think the 1655 was about the best 70 hp tractor from that time period. The 1855 is ok, and the perkins would take away its main problem, but I am still not sure you would like it as good as a 4020. My experience is that a 4020 feels and handles like a smaller tractor. The 1855 has good visibility, and probably a touch more power, but it feels bigger and bulkier. Have you driven an 1855 before? Before you spend time and money on the project, maybe drive one to make sure you will like it when its done.

I have the Perkins tub and bell housing you will need to change motors . I would trade it for that 310 diesel motor . Call me 580 471 5122

I had a Perkins 354 installed into a 1750. It turned out great AFTER I spent a lot of $$. The best thing is to buy a junk 1850 diesel because of all of the extra parts you will need- bigger radiator, the correct manifolds, engine mounts, throttle linkage, front tub, bell housing, hood with the correct location for the exhaust etc.. After I got all of the stuff from bone yards, I found out I should have listened to Shep in VA and went to Cummins repower. When I got done, I was nearly at the cost of the Cummins conversion. If I do another Waukasaw repower, I will go straight to installing a Cummins. Under this forum, do a search on "Repower", there is a lot of information on that topic. Shep in VA had website showing how he did it. He repowered a 1655 with a Cummins and brought it to the national Oliver show at Dover, Ohio. I spoke to him then. It looked factory and ran great. Good luck.

Sorry for not posting a reply to your posts earlier. I read them and decided since it was more involved than I thought, I would just pass on the tractor and motor.

Another reason also was I bought a Oliver 1755 after liking my Oliver 1655. I did not like how that tractor handled. So the 1855 converted would be just a little more power but the same handling.

I am just looking for something different to play with. Still like/love the "other" green but just looking for something "new".
