Manifold Question

I removed the intake/exhaust manifold from my 1650 gas to fix a bad exhaust leak at the manifolds. Exhaust manifold ports were pretty rough and machine shop had to take off about 3/32" to get good sealing surfaces. However, after assembly with new seals I still have an exhaust leak at the manifold. Head ports are good. I'm thinking that the "height" difference between intake and exhaust manifolds after machining is not allowing the exhaust manifold to pull up tight to head. Did I goof up by not having intake manifold machined at the same time?

Don't know about doubling up gaskets, they are a cup style that fit over the end of each manifold connection. When I pull off the manifolds again I'll see if they can be stacked.

East central Wisconsin? I'm down in the SW corner of the state.

I would say yes you should have cut all together. I've never done it any other way.

Since you took it apart, you might be able to loosen the two pieces and it might realign.

I just put a new set of manifolds on a 77 and used a straight edge to line the ports up and only snugged the bolts. After I had the manifold on the head then I pulled the two sections together to their torque.

My point here is that there is some play in the two pieces.

Thanks for the reply. I had the four manifold joining bolts loose when I put it on the head, but with the amount that got machined on the exhaust manifold it probably used up any play that I had between the two manifolds. I'll just take them back to the shop and have the intake machined to match the exhaust.
