hot starter switch

"Restored" 77 (Krylon overhaul?) had 12 V cables and starter switch got hot. Installed 00 cables, and took apart switch. It was pretty well chewed up. Got a "GUARANTEED" for 6V new switch and it gets hotter than old one. 5 seconds of cranking will blister my hand. Yea, I was dumb enuf to find out the hard way. Does anyone make an actual 6V OEM replacement starter switch? If not, what are options? Shorting the switch terminals with a crowbar would be inconvenient long term. Any suggestions appreciated!! Thank you.

I got branded from one of those switches also from a farm fleet store purchase, went to dealer and bought an oem one and never had anymore hot starts. My palm looked like I was branded from the brass end of a 12 gauge. Bought mine from an IH dealer.

Well, keep looking for a good one but maybe you could check salvage yards for an original.

One I was helping get going for a guy, he thought he messed the original switch. The new one he got was unbelievably cheesy.

I was able to clean up the original but when I put it back together I had to clamp it in a vise to make sure the pieces aligned and then bend the tabs back down. The old ones have some real chunks of metal in there. Not just tin.

Other than that, good luck.
