Buda Engine.

About everybody in the aftermarket made over bore kits for those engines. Have you looked up in part numbers Those are wet sleeve engines. How much money do you want to put into this project. Have you done your homework on the B series Buda engines? Have you thought about a crank and sleeves and pistons for a 262 A-C?

Looking for a project for my 10 year old son and I to do together. Found a Cockhutt 40 with a broken Rod. Trying to determine if this is something that we should get into. I've done many JD two cylinders. Always liked Cockshutts. Trying to pick the brains of you all that have been around Cockshutts.

by memory don't have books available. some internal parts are the same between the 4 cyl. 4B153 engine used in the 30/E3 tractors and the 6B230 used in the 40/E4. items like valve train components, connecting rods, sleeves and pistons, the only difference being in the number used. this may make it easier when trying to find used parts when new isn't avail. as many more items including fork lifts and other industrial engines are out there including in some gleaner combines

Better check for parts availability,I know that the 262 gas is almost impossible to find engine kits and if you do it'll be real expensive. You could always try to find a gas 262
that's running out of a combine to put into the 40.I have done that a couple times.

Parts are available if you don't mind giving your suppliers a signed, blank check. Talk to your machine shop (preferably an old geezer who has heard about the Buda brand) about how easy is for them to get parts and how much it costs to have the valves ground. Then talk to them about costs involving the crankshaft ground. Do a call out to Irv B. and Phil H. on this site and try to talk to them in person. This is not a brand to rebuild if you are in a hurry because it's possible a supplier won't return your call for several weeks. If you are still serious about this project, remember that you could easily spend $3K on a rebuilt tractor and have a hard time getting $2K out of it in the end should you decide to sell.
One advantage to your project is that you'll end up with a tractor that hasn't ever been seen by a lot of people and it won't be a cookie-cutter tractor, unlike a few other brands.

(quoted from post at 23:40:55 08/12/17) I want to rebuild a 6 cylinder Buda engine. Bore it out. Is there parts and piston available for these engines.
Parts are available (Phil Heisey) has most everything. When you remove and replace sleeves, take the time (extra time) to clean inside bore hole. Remove rust very well and clean the seat grooves super extra clean, or you can (will) have leakage.
Once you are complete, the tractor will run and sounds awesome. The 40's have a sound all their own.
