White 2-105

Looking at a 1981 2-105 that's for sale locally.I test drove the thing and noticed that clutch won't hold in 6th gear, let clutch out and hold the brakes and the tractor will hardly move and kinda shudders a bit.Speaking of brakes, you have to pump them to get them to work and even then it's not great.Leaking oil out the pto but that looks like an easy fix.Tractor runs good and has good rubber on it.As the picture shows it looks pretty good.Hour meter showing 3400 hours.Asking price is 9500.00 but owner said make me an offer when I mentioned it needs a clutch.Overall it's a pretty clean tractor.Any guess as to what it would be worth knowing it needs clutch and brake work?I would do my own repairs.
Thank's

If the air works, you'd better grab it,even if you have to pay full price. Nice ones are getting about impossible to find. I bought this one a year ago April. I gave $9000 for it. It needed a $600 grill. It took some searching to find one this nice. It's a 79. Air works, had 4400 hours or so on it. I ended up having to put a clutch in it. the clutch didn't give out,but the throw out bearing did while I was stopping all the time with the round baler.
Only word of caution, those are probably the worst Oliver or White ever to put a clutch in. You have to raise the front of the cab to get the fuel tank out of the way.

We bought this one about 10 yr ago for $7,000 and traded it about a year and a half ago for a little over $12,000 granted front wheel assist but gives you a little idea.

There is a guy, Rick Corder, on the unofficial allis forum, located in southern Missouri that will rebuild your clutch disk, pressure plate etc and make it look like a new one. His price is very reasonable.

Ya,they're not that bad. I took my clutch, pressure plate and flywheel to Clutch Dynamics in Lansing Michigan. They refaced the clutch, resurfaced the flywheel and rebuilt the pressure plate and the bill was about $385.

That appears to be a Red Stripe by White Farm Equipment. If it is, it should have the dot 4 Perkins in it. If it were close to me in Western PA, I would be very interested. I have a Red Stripe 2-85 built by WFE and an older grey stripe 2-105 by White Motor. The Red Stripe 2-85 has given us better service than the 2-105. Don't get me wrong, the 2-105 is a good runner but it has required more repairs than the 2-85 over the same number of operating hours. The dot 4 is a smoother engine in my opinion. I don't think his price is bad and he has offered to reduce it. I say buy it. In my opinion, the Red Stripes are the better Whites and the very best are the Workhorses with the Cummins engine. If you check Tractorhouse, you can see how the Red Stripes and Workhorses hold value. Good Luck.

Thank's everyone for your comment's and opinions.Might make an offer on it.Also noticed no oil on dipstick in the rear housing/hyd reservoir. The pump was really squealing when I started it.Thank's again for input.

That is a very sharp looking tractor and I hope that it turns out well for you if your purchase it.

My son bought a 2-105 gray strip which is an older model than the red strip you are looking at. It appeared to be in good condition body wise but I have had plenty of issues with it. Fortunately I can do the repair work myself like you say you can which makes a huge difference.

I just thought you might like to check out some of the work I have done on mine as I have posted many questions coupled with pictures. The guys on this form are absolutely wonderful to help a person out. I would never had succeeded as well without their valuable advice and suggestions.

The last comment you made about the hydraulic oil being low and the pump chattering is what caught my attention. That is what I am dealing with on mine right at the present and thought you might be interested in reading some of the comments and suggestions others have given to help me with my problem. I'm not sure of course that you have exactly the same set up on a newer tractor like the one you are looking at but maybe check the oil level in the transmission just in case it is leaking hydraulic oil from the reservoir past the PTO seals like mine. If it is over full and looks thinner than 80-90 it could be diluted with hydraulic oil. Perhaps being a newer model it isn't possible to do that but from your last post it sounded very similar.

Again I wish you all the best.

Seems an odd color paint on the engine. Usually they are dark gray like the frame rails. Wonder what is up with that? Otherwise looks like a nice tractor and hope it checks out for you.

if it's an 81' it's not a series"3" red stripe. I don't think the series 3 came out until 82' which would explain the odd colored paint in places. pretty common for people to repaint with the newer scheme looks much better IMO. good tractor either way!
