Oliver 1655 Diesel

I recently purchased two more Oliver tractors from an auction. One of them is an Oliver 1655 diesel, and I was wondering what the recommended engine oil is for them since it did not come with a manual. I'm guessing it might be 15w-40? and second question is a synthetic 15w-40 like Rotella better or a conventional oil like the farm rated brand fleet farm sells is better in those older Waukesha engines? Thanks in advance :) [/img]

I looked at these tractors in Neenah, They needed a little more work than I wanted. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks, I've met a lot of people there while picking them up that asked me questions. When you looked at them did the 88 run? I looked at the 88 the first day and it ran but afterwards went I went to pick it up it didn't start. Had no spark needed a coil and now have the tank off because there was a lot of sand in it.

I use Shell 15W40 (now "T4"), and have used Mobil Delvac also. Just needs to be rated for heavy duty diesel engines, and the 15W40 is a good all-year compromise to changing oil weights for summer/winter. I
don't think synthetic would hurt at all, gains are questionable though, considering 50h oil changes and the added cost.

Possible someone was wanting to get it much cheaper because it would not start? I have seen "vandalism" on anything that runs at auctions. Also seen someone get arrested when pictures came out. Seems the auction company was watching for a particular person that had been accused of this in the past. Low life people like that are around often.

Me too. An F550 I was inspecting at an auction was super hard starting. Someone had unplugged the relay for the pre-heaters.

Yeah I kinda that I was odd especially when I had it running for 10 minutes fine.. Hopefully nonothing got dumped in the 1655 tank cuz j cant see bottom with ruby red and reg diesel mixed the color

I tried to start the 88 with no luck. It turned over fine but would not fire. I thought it was the ignition since I could smell gas at the carb.
