New Oliver 77 owner

I just picked up an Oliver 77, it came with a new place we bought. I have never driven a tractor in my life, so please bear with me. The tractor starts right up and hydraulics work. The only issue seems to be a brake issue. The owner mentioned that only the left brake works, and said something about their being a housing on the left side with a "band" inside that needs to be fixed?

If that sounds like anything you have ever heard of, could you please chime in? I am especially interested in learning the correct terminology, because I think I am going to have a hard time searching for parts and knowledge if I don't know what words to use.

thanks, I actually ordered one this morning!
Early ones had bands later they had disc. You can start by getting a serial number. If it has a tag it will be in front of the right brake housing or on the left side under the dash. Neither are very hard to work on if you have a little mechanical ability.

Thank you. I believe the tractor is a 1949, from what I understand. I'll look around in the locations you mentioned and see what else I can find out. I suspect once the manual gets here things will get a lot more clear.

You can be proud of a 77. I grew up with one on our dairy farm then bought one of my own. Quite the versatile work horse and drives better than the any of the other brands could ever dream of!

It's kind of a shame it will be the first tractor I ever drive, I will probably be spoiled from day one. I did manage to get it started, I couldn't believe how easily it cranked right up. I can't wait to get that brake fixed and put this baby to some use!
