77/88 Oliver 1000 rpm pto?

An older guy that I have known for years and consider to be honest says he has a 1000 rpm on a 77. He said it bolted on under the pto unit where the pain went and said he got it from the local Oliver dealer in Pipestone, Mn CC Walkup. Did Oliver make such a thing?

Yes? In the late 1950's when Deere introduced the 1000 RPM PTO on the little 2 cylinder 435 they offered kits for the later 2 cylinder tractors to add 1000 RPM PTO's. Oliver did that also. I don't remember them for the 77 & 88 but I do remember them for the 770 & 880 tractors.

I suppose if it fit a 770 it would fit a 77. he said he used it for a pto combine so he could throttle down to the slow ground speed but keep the combine up to speed. The tractor is 8 miles away so I will have to drive over there and look at it sometime.

O. K. I looked in my 66-880 Parts book. It is listed as a "PTO Speed conversion unit" There are 2 sets of gears listed, one for the 1600 RPM engines and one for the faster RPM engines. So yes the 1600 RPM unit would be just right for a 66 through 88 tractor + Super 77 & 88 tractors.

They did offer them. Both a single speed 1000 and the dual speed which was a add on to the bottom of the 540 unit. I have been looking for either set up for my 77 over 10 years. Very very rare. I have a corn drier that takes 1000 rpm. I Finally broke down and bought a hub city converter box.
