Chain Coupler Woes

So that means my 2-105 should have a trunnion coupler - that's good to know, because I need to do a clutch in it.
I did a roof for my buddy in exchange for putting a clutch in the Oliver about 50 hours ago - the coupler was new, but the cotter pins either broke or backed out.

Last time I had to do one, I took the easy route and hired a mentally unbalanced Lithuanian dwarf for an hour or so.

Please tell me that when the guy put the new coupler in, he at least put in new cotter pins. . .

Coshoo - thanks - I'll get his number the next time I have to do one...
J. - the repair link came with one long cotter pin and two short - I scratched my head for a little, then did as you say. It's possible my buddy didn't do that the last time

I use the S hooks for combine feeder house chains, they are hardened but not re-usable. As said make sure there is one long cotter through both pins.

If its really giving you a fit you can do like we used to do at the concrete plant. On a double wide chain get a triple wide master link and an extra side link to slide on the
master link, then weld the outside side link to the posts and cut to suit.Never had one come loose.

They are hardened steel pins available from jd ect. for the connector links in #550 feeder chains in most older combines, they have a hook on one end, you put them through the hole and bend the other one around the opposite way so they look like an S, I use these because an un- reliable source of hardened cotter keys, they are a one time use part will break if you try to straighten them out
