Am going to replace clutch in my 55. Will need to split the tractor. Have never done this before. Can someone please tell me the procedure on how to split the tractor and remove the clutch? Thanks for your help.

I have owners manual and a parts manual. I have a roller jack for the back half but am not quite sure how to do the front half. I have blocks and two bottle jacks. Was thinking of maybe getting a jack stand for that maybe. I jacked up the rear right wheel and turned and marked where the wheel would lock up and then turned it a second rotation and it would lock up in between where it did on the first. On the third rotation it was back to where it locked on the first rotation and the 4th was where the second rotation was. The same was for the left tire. I drained all three drain plugs and no metal. there was about 5 gallons of oil. Is that the right amount and what type oil do I use? Thanks for all the info. E mail is: [email protected]

I see Super 55 linked you to the Z-split pages in the O-fishal Oliver service manual. Good on ya', Super!

The only really safe way to handle the front is to suspend it from above. The front suspension on pretty much all tractors is on a "bolster" shaft, that runs front to back. So when one front tire goes in a hole, the other side can compensate. The problem is, once you get the halves separated, the front half is going to want to just flop over sideways unless you have a chain around it and have it suspended from above.

Not sure why you went through the wheel revolution routine- Its not like a distributor, where you have to get it back in the same spot when you put it back together.

He has a noise in the rear end as well. Supporting the front depends on what type of equipment you have available We had a stand made up to support the front half.
