Planing manifold question

Removed the manifolds on my 1650 gas to fix an exhaust leak. The exhaust openings have some pitting and rust so I assume they need to be planed. How much can be planed off? I know every shop is different in price, but any ballpark estimates on planing? At some point it may be cheaper to get a new manifold.

Did you take it apart? It is easier if you find a shop with a belt sander as the hardest part of doing manifolds on a grinder is bolting them up to surface.

I haven't yet separated the intake and exhaust manifolds. I can if it's easier just to have someone put the exhaust manifold on a big belt sander to reface it.

I'm assuming that I don't need to worry about taking equal amounts of material off of the intake manifold? The clamps will equalize the differences when
bolting to engine head?

I remember visiting an engine machine shop back in the early '70s, and they had a horizontal table with a grinding wheel on a vertical shaft in the middle that they used to surface heads.
That is, if I remember correctly.
A belt sander table and a straightedge sounds like it would work fine.

VanNorman made automotive surfacing machines of that style. Excellent machines.

I've surfaced a few manifolds on my mill but it's a royal PITA to get them fixtured up accurately and rigid.
