Oliver 77 hydraulic upgrade.

After the input from people and talking to some of you I am going to be upgrading my 77 with a factory hydraulic unit.

I want to make sure I have all of this correct so please let me know if I have missed something.

1. The 77 is a 1951 model with no lift of any kind.

2. I have a complete hydraulic housing coming. The version with the 2 sticks and the filter on the side. (looks exactly like the one we have on our 1963 770.)

3. I know I am going to have to get a pump to bolt on the bottom of the housing.

4. I am going to have to get a different PTO shaft that will have splines in the middle to run the pump.

5. There will be an input shaft that I am going to have to trim some off of so the pump will fit. Possibly a pto support carrier bearing and housing that I will need to remove.

Am I missing anything?

Your going to have to know which input shaft your transmission has. There were 2 used, a long one for the power lift and a short one for the hydraulics. If you have the long one you will either need to buy a short one, they are available brand new now and I believe Korves carries them. Or get the one from the tractor your hydraulic unit comes off of. Oooooorrrrrr if the splines on the shaft in your tractor are good you can chuck it up in a lathe and machine it off to the right length. Thats what we did on Dads 77 and my 66 and it worked out good.

when we restored our 88 standard it didn't have hydraulics either so we installed one like you are doing. when you get the base plate for the tower make sure you get the shifting lever along with it because
they are designed differently than the lever you have right now with nothing in it.

Ditto on in the tractor. The one I did was by putting open rags below the shaft to catch the filings, then holding an abrasive disc against the shaft while the engine ran turning the shaft. It cut faster than you might think and left it uniform in shape. gm
