1800C power beyond port size?

Friend of mine has a 1800C that he plumbed for power beyond for a loader joystick. Its not working the way it should. One of the problems was he had the by-pass/return hose plumbed into the 1" return port. Other problem is he didn't put in the plug inside the supply port. All the directions I've seen say to remove the 1/2" plug and put a 3/8" plug down inside the 1/2" port. The problem is on this 1800C (I looked at my 1800C as well and its same) is that the port that the directions say should be a 1/2" is actually a 3/8". So is the threads that are inside this 3/8" port 1/4" or is this not something you can do on this model? I'm unable to look in the hole on my 1800C cause I don't have any 5/16 key stock to take the plug out.

Your 1800 "C" tractor is not threaded in the passage like the later 50 series tractors.

You will have to remove the top cover and install a blind connector in the LH front passage to block the oil flow (does the same thing as the plug does in the 50 series.   The connector that does not have an opening is part number 158 227-A. &bnsp; This part is probably no longer available, however you should figure out some way to fill the passage in the connector for example by welding.   Other option have a machine shop make one out of rod or shaft.   The connector has an o ring grove at both ends for an o ring to seal it thus a machine operation to cut the groves.

I've never had one of these units apart, but I'm no backyard mechanic either. When I take the top cover off I'm assuming it will be fairly self-explanatory? I don't have a shop manual for this model do they have a picture of this in the manual or do you have a picture? Also just for curiosity sake would a top cover off an 1850 or 1750 fit properly?
