Was pulling tree stumps last week and working the 55 pretty hard and the clutch slipped a couple times with a screeching sound and then I heard a sound in the tranny/rear end like a clicking noise. Am thinking maybe a spring broke on the clutch plate. Any ideas? Would the tractor have to be split?

Does it make the noise in neutral? Put the transmission in neutral and jack up one of the rear wheel and turn it by hand. Is the click still there? Jack up the other wheel and let this side down. Is the noise still there? Put a chalk mark on the tire when you here the noise. How many times do you hear the noise in one revolution of the rear wheel. Drain all 3 transmission and rear end compartment in 3 separate containers. Did you find any broken gear teeth? Start there.

I did as you said. The left wheel locked (clicked) in 3 spots on first revolution and on second revolution it did it in between where the first revolution did. But when I would turned the wheel the third time it would go back to the same spots as the first rotation and when I did it the fourth time it would click where it did on the second revolution. Same with the right tire. There was no metal in the transmission oil.
