I'm back. Bosch psb pump

Is there anyway to check pump pressure on tractor? Local shop want $250 plus to check it after they already charged $100 to clean and reassemble the head. I cannot get the injectors to pop. I have bench tested them at 1750.
I pulled this head off another unit and believe that it is timed properly. I pulled all the lines off and turned it over. Fuel pumps out but doesn't squirt up at all. Pulled the head back out and the plunger still seems ok. Maybe it's just wore out but it seems the shop would've caught that. All previous help and future help and suggestions are very appreciated.

The only way to know for sure is to check the calibration on the test stand. Could very well be the head is worn too much to deliver fuel at cranking speed. That's why most older tractors with PSB pumps don't get shut off at plow days at dinnertime. Or need a pull start when killed with the engine hot to spin the engine faster than the starter will.

It may be worn but I did take it to a reputable shop. I am spinning it over with all the injectors out so it spins pretty fast. Getting lots of fuel through the return.pulled the head again. Might try to install it one more time. Pump units are different but the shop said they interchanged and after measuring I can't see any problems. Could a guy T a guage in the injector line to see how much pressure it's putting out? Is there anywhere to send the head for rebuild? Shop said they could send it overseas but it would take about 6 months and be around $500.

The pump needs to overcome the injector opening pressure on any high pressure fuel system. If the injector is set to open at 2000 PSI for example, but when hooked up to the pump and cranked if no fuel comes out the nozzle tip then most likely the head plunger to bore clearance is worn. Shows up quickly at low cranking speeds. I've seen heads that won't open injectors at 200 RPM, but just barely start delivering fuel through the injectors on the test stand at 4-500 RPM. That's why they get pull started. High pressure pumps have three main jobs to work correctly, Pressurize, Time, and Meter the fuel. Worn heads MAY squirt fuel from each outlet when cranked, but will stop when the lines are tight. Then all delivery becomes internal leakage. Most cranking speed tests are done at 150 RPM on the test bench..

Dieseltech do you have the equipment to test these or know where to send it to be repaired. Also do I need all my injectors hooked up to test for pop off?
Right now I only have one line on and the rest open.

Yes, I have the equipment to test it, but doubt it will pass. Engine is a good test bench too IF you know what to look for. From what you describe now, since it won't open any injectors I'd suspect too much internal leakage. One more thing to try, remove the rear 7/8 inch fuel plug, with a small screwdriver turn the fuel rod screw clockwise 2-3 turns and see if it helps. It MAY run then, but full load smoke will be black. E-mail is open on Classic view if you want to get in contact..

I took this head to the shop to have inspected and reassembled..I wonder if I am doing something wrong. Do I need all the injectors hooked up to see if they pop off. I will try lowering pressure and turning up smoke screw.

(quoted from post at 19:52:05 07/21/17) Just for fun lower the pressure down to say 800 PSI and see if the pump will open the nozzles.
Ok. I lowered the pressure on one injector to about 800. It pops off. If I drop the all of them down will it run good enough to move it around and run the 3 point? Would at least be nice to get it started before I sink any more money in it.

(quoted from post at 17:53:55 07/23/17) Yes it will run! There were tractors with lower pressures than that.
Thanks J. I did get it started with ether this morning. Did not want to restart though. Had a few sticky valves that didn't help things. I'm going to out it back together and try to pull start it I think.

(quoted from post at 04:16:15 07/24/17) No e-mail in my inbox this morning.

Hmm! I wonder why you're not receiving my emails.i used an email address you sent me stuff on before. I will have to try later.

Did you tell me to set timing one tooth to the right or left? Front or back? Would like to get this tractor to start on its own.
