Finished installing the engine in the tractor and had it running warming up to reset the valves.

Problem is the sealing ring around the pipe to rocker shaft oil tube pops out after it warms up and sprays oil all over.

I carefully installed a new sealing ring when reassembling the rocker shaft to the head. When it first happened I loosened the shaft and pressed this ring back into place on the pipe but it popped up again.

I can get another new one but I would appreciate any advice as to what might be causing the problem. The oil pressure gauge indicates the oil pressure in the upper 3/4 of the green but does not appear to run too high on the gauge.

Thanks for any suggestions

When the 354 came out in the 1850 they told us in service school not to put the O-ring in the groove but below it and it would pop in when you installed the shaft. Always worked for me.

So if I understand you correctly, you push the O-Ring/Sealing Tube slightly further into the hole and the oil pressure will push it up onto the oil tube and stop at the flaring on the oil tube.

When I installed it, I slipped it on the oil tube and installed the shaft but what happened the oil pressure pushed the O-Ring/Sealing Tube up the metal tube on one side past the flare so oil was spurting out rather than all being directed to the rocker shaft and arms.

I have a new O-Ring/Sealing Tube on order. I will try that and see if it works better. Just glad it didn't happen after the valve cover was on as one wouldn't know about it and the rocker arms could starve for oil.

Thank you for the tip John.
