I am looking at a 550 Cockshutt. The hyd. Won't work ,the 3 point won't raise. The Pto does work. Hyd. Pump doesn't make any noise. What kind of oil does the hyd. Use? Any advice? Thanks DTK

Back when new most used ATF in the hyd, Any good Hyd, oil should be fine. I'd unbolt the hyd pump and check the gears. When the gears got worn and making a lot of noise some would just pull the gear off the pump and bolt the pump back on.

I'm not sure about the 550 but my 35 has a lever on it that will disconnect the hydraulics, you might check that first. It's a little t shaped handle down on the platform.

The hydraulic unit uses SAE 10w oil. The pump and pto are both driven by the same shaft. As all ready stated pull the pump and check drive gears. Only the 550 diesel has a pump disengage lever and it is on the left side of tranni/Rearend right by your left foot. Irv

Pull the pump off. Check the drive gears. My bet is they are stripped. The gears are being repopped but are pricey. Used ones are very hard to find, again pricey.
The way they are designed it is impossible to set the backlash on the gears. Many of them have stripped or badly worn gears.

Other than the pump drive gears they are great tractors. I have one Dad bought new. Has about 15000 hours. One engine rebuild about 500 hours ago.
