PSB pump plunger removal

As some of you may have read I'm trying to free up a plunger. Looks like it's supposed to come out the top but I don't know how to remove the seat. It looks like it's stuck in the up position as the spring is compressed. Thought maybe I could tap it down if I can get to the top. Is this a bad idea? Still haven't got to town David but I liked your idea.

I use the delivery valve puller to remove the valve, pry off the tin gear retainer, then carefully tap out the plunger from the top. Hopefully the guide between the gear and plunger is not broken..

Thank you. I don't have a puller or know what one looks like. Maybe I should take it to the experts or find another head.

I think you have the old style control unit as well and I would go with the later heavy duty unit. This is a case where a simple screw drive test and pump removal might have saved the pump!

Yes j. It probably would've saved them. I'm pretty sure it was broke before I got it and I do not know how to perform the screwdriver test. Perhaps you could post it for all of us to see and maybe we can save a few of these pumps.
I think the head I'm working on now may be a later one.
