1755 not charging

Got a 1755 not charging. We purchased this tractor a yr ago and knew it needed work. The alternator is not hooked up for some reason and the volt regulator appears to have been bypassed. I've got 4 wires coming to the front of the tractor just dangling. They are green, orange, brown and white. The green is hot at all times, white is lights and have no idea what the brown and orange wire are for. I've got a shop manual, it is rather confusing to figure out. The alternator has one terminal marked "batt". Why would the green wire be hot at all times? Exciter wire? Where do all the wires go? Cant I run a new wire from alt terminal to the gauge and clip all the rest except for the lights and be done? (I am thinking the alt has the built in regulator)

It depends completely if you have a one wire alternator or one that requires a regulator, post a pic if you can, If you don't know how to tell.

O. K. The early 55 series used the old style Delco with the external regulator. The later ones used the alternators with internal regulators. The old style was not furnish for repairs when Delco quit producing them. Oliver then issued a service bulletin on how to rewire the old early tractors for the later alternators. So I need a serial number and then I check my information and probably help you. J.

The green wire that's hot all the time(even when switch is off) comes from the gauge and runs up to the front of the tractor. Also coming of the gauge is a red wire that goes to the starter solenoid. I suspect this is how the voltage charging gets back to the battery. Is this a correct statement?

Looks like a "one wire" alternator. You need to only hook up one wire to this alternator and that wire would be a hot wire connected to the battery.
