1650 steering issue

Jacked the front up again tonight and got underneath. Found when I pushed the tires into a left hand turn the shaft in the steering sector under the radiator would turn with them, however when I pulled them back the shaft turned until the tires were straight ahead and from that point nothing. I feel the rack or pinion probably broke a tooth or somehow jammed something up. Am I on the right track is it something else?

Stab in the dark. Did it break the center steering arm in a way that the bolt is catching in the notch in the shaft up to a point then letting loose?

Mr. Lund, haven't checked that out. Will do so this evening. Also if this has came loose would it be possible that the steering gears are off center, in other words, right hand position is center?

I don't see any way possible for anything to jump inside that cylinder. I suppose it's possible that you could have blown an o-ring on the piston, but I don't know. Seems like if you did,if you took that quarter inch plug out of the cap on top of the cylinder and had somebody turn the steering wheel, oil should shoot out of there like a geyser. All that pressure going past the o-ring would have to go somewhere.

Again thanks to you Mr. Lund. Power washed the front end last night and just got down under it a few minutes ago. Really obvious, steering arm is cracked, has an 1/8" or more gap in it. If I am correct,I am going to have to pull the power steering cylinder out to change the arm? Figured from my IT manual there is no other way, but maybe there is a shortcut.

Probably the best way is to just lift the whole cylinder up,yes. No need to take the cylinder apart that way.
I did change a steering arm one time by just unbolting the wide front, replacing the bolts with a couple of longer ones for a guide, then I jacked the tractor up from under the frame and got it high enough to just slide the arm out and a new one in.
