1850 farmerized steering shaft

I finally got my bolster removed and this is what I found someone has done to the steering shaft and arm. Considering this tractor only gets at most 50 hours per year and the fact that the keyways have nice sharp (not rounded) corners I am considering just putting in a new key along with a new grade 8 5/8" fine thread bolt torqued to 200 foot pounds and running it this way. What does this group think about that?

I saw a shaft like this once, I think it had been a long shaft for a narrow front, had been splined with a grinder and it worked fine, I think your plan should work just fine.
