Had my 1755D overhauled this passed spring. Now this may sound funny, but it sure seems louder than before. More noise from the engine ,not exhaust noise, I want to say it is injector noise. That jingling, rattling noise when you increase the throttle. Sounds like a power stroke Ford does when you accelerate. I sure never noticed it before. The mechanic did have the injectors cleaned and inspected, nothing was done to the pump though. Maybe I'm hearing things, but after running a tractor for years you notice these little differences. I did check the timing, it was a little advanced, but try as I might, I couldn't retard it. The pump contacts the side of the engine block. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before?

The head was totally redone. Anyway there's $1050 in it. After posting I got to wondering myself about timing being off a tooth. Probably no way to know without taking front cover off?

You have access to a dial indicator? Use it to find TDC and then check your valve timing. What was the valve protrusion set at and what do you have the valves set at?

I have a dial indicator. Finding actual tdc with it would involve removing a valve spring and dropping valve onto top of piston? or can this be accomplished through the injector hole? I have no details on valve protrusion. I didn't do the overhaul, I hired it done. My invoice says "head work". I will have to contact mechanic, find out what machine shop he used and then contact them. So that I know, what should valve protrusion be on this engine? thank you

The power seems about the same, maybe a bit sluggish. just a little smoke when cold (brownish or dark, not white or blue). It seems to start just fine.
