1365 hydraulic

Shouldn't the hydraulic pump to the 3pt and remotes on a 1365 be self priming after you clean the filter/screen?

Most of the time it is but I have had to open up one of the remotes and let it shoot a little to purge an air lock on one of my AC 5040s,same hydraulic system. Also if the seal on the cap of the housing isn't sealed 100% it'll suck air and not prime.

It just took some time. I cleaned it after supper last night because it wasn't acting right when I moved some bales off late in the afternoon. It wouldn't raise when I put it back together. I put it back out in the barn. It still wouldn't raise this morning. I took the fill plug out and put a little air pressure to it with it running. Still nothing. I loaded a load of silage, fed it,went to load another load and I noticed it was up. The remotes seem to be working now. It labors the engine a little when I push and pull the lever.

I had the tractor split last summer and put a clutch in it,so I had the lines right off and it primed right up OK. Just a fluke this time I guess.

All's well.

Spoke too soon. I must have a problem with a check valve letting it bleed back or something. I worked it up and down a few times this morning and it worked fine. I went out to move some bales late this afternoon and it did just what it did yesterday. I can hear a little skipping whine down by the filter and the 3pt just jumps a little bit at a time. I got one bale high enough to move it then had to just use the loader. I wanted to bring two bales home with me but couldn't get the one on the back to raise. The spear was up most of the way by the time I got home.

In mine it had a seal in the cap over the screen holder and it had gotten hard so I replaced it with a new O Ring that fit and it helped. Also running the fluid a little over the full
mark on the dipstick helps too.Could have sucked the O Ring on the suction side of the pump while it was trying to prime another thought.

When I pulled that out,the rubber ring on the tin cap that goes on the end of the filter fell off. I stuck it back on with some had grease and slid it back in. I wonder if that fell off?

That thing's gonna drive me to drinking. I took the filter out again this morning. Everything was where it should be. Still wouldn't work. I got it out about 3:30 to move an elevator so I could grind feed. It sat there idling for a while and it started working again. I ran it up and down six or eight times, idling, half throttle, full throttle,it worked as fast and smooth as you'd ever want it to.
I ground feed with the 1850,then started it up again and it still works. Wanna take bets on whether it'll work in the morning or not?

Might keep working now if the problem was air in the system that's the good thing to happen.Bad thing could be I remembered when the hydraulic pump on my AC 5040(same pump as the 1365)went bad
the hydraulics acted like yours is acting had to keep priming the system.

Worked this morning. I went down the road and got two bales. Worked fine. Let's hope it keeps working.
