Got a White 2-105 w/ Perkins engine. When you push in clutch, and turn on key to start, it clicks the solenoid and does not engage the starter. Keep turning the key about a dozen times and the starter finally engages. What's up?

Delco top battery post on the solenoid is worn so the contact washer inside can't hit both heavy posts inside as it should. Try this, remove the ground strap, then remove all cables and wires from the top post on the solenoid. Loosen the nut holding it tight in the cap 3-4 turns, now bush the bolt in and turn it exactly 1/2 turn. Pull it back out, tighten the nut and replace all the wires. Bolt inside has square shoulder like a carriage bolt. If bolt has not been turned before the head will be turned to an unworn area where the contact washer can work again. I've saved a lot of Delco solenoids this way..

My 2-135 did that last week. I told the wife to hold the key while I tapped the starter with a hammer. It worked that way once. Next time,I got a wrench and tightened all the connections on the solenoid and starter. She tried it and it started right up. Nothing seemed loose, but just turning things the little bit that I did made it work.

My 2-88 has been that way for ten years, usually I only flick the key a couple times and it starts. Some days I don't feel like starting either.

Might just need a little adjustment on the clutch safety switch too. I had to adjust the one on the 2-135 once. The bushing in the pedal was getting worn and changed the geometry of it.
