1855 engine question?

So I bought an 1855 last week for what I think is a good price and yes I've heard all the horror stories about the 310 Waukesha but I thought its worth the risk as my plans were to do a cummins swap. But I must say that the 310 runs great and has good oil pressure so I may try and save it. So after looking in the oil pan with an inspection mirror I saw the 6 point rod bolts which scare me. So my thoughts are to drop the oil pan install new 12 point rod bolts and add about 4" to the oil pan by the way this is a non oil cooled block Any thoughts on this would be helpful

I think the wrist pin bushings are a bigger problem than the bolts. I think finding a way to keep the oil cool is a good idea.

Have the oil checked and do the pin bushings first! The idea for the deeper pan is not new. I now some pans were modified that way. Have you checked pump timing and high idle no load RPM? Are you going to use the PTO? If not running the engine say at 2300 also helps. They had a bulletin on these items a long time ago. Do the pin bushings first!

I added 3" to my oil pan, and the oil pump pick up tube, it now holds 4 1/2 gallons of oil, I also added the after market oil cooler at the filter, and all the other up dates and it was balanced
