oliver plow question

I just bought an oliver model 360 plow that is a 2x14 spring reset. It looks awful heavy for a small tractor. What tractor were these built for? Thanks.

I'm not an Oliver guru, but it depends on what you call "small" or "big". Around here on the TX high plains, a 185 hp JD 4840 is a "small" tractor these days.

That would have been sold around the era of 1600's being sold, I think.

In general, folks recommend 15-30 hp per bottom, depending on you soil conditions and how deep you want to plow.

I let a really nice Oliver plow go at an auction a while back - it sure was a nice heavy looking one. Wish I would have bid a couple more times!

Depends on the ground plowing in sod it takes weight to penetrate and also the tractor would struggle pulling next year if corn it could easily pull three bottom.

Well in the early fall of 1962 I had to go to the branch in Columbus to pick up an 1800 diesel because the next week some people from the South Bend plant were coming to field test a new plow. It was the 360 series plow. I don't remember a 2 bottom but we sold quite a few 3-14 models behind the new 1600 tractors. They brought a 4 bottom to use behind the 1800 I picked up.

Was it like this only 2 bottom? The neighbor had one just like this. It sold on his estate sale Saturday. It brought $375. He used it with his 1600. The guy who bought the tractor bought the plow too.

I think it looks like a three bottom. Wasn't there also a second kind that kinda looks like a pull type with a three point added . Yours is the kind i would like to find

We have a two bottom kicking around somewhere that looked like that it was used on our super 55

We also have a 565 5x16 semi-mount that was mostly used on 1750 but I remember riding with my Dad as a kid on the 1650 pulling it. There was not much use for the steering wheel on that tractor.

We had that 3 bottom model. We pulled it with a 4600 Ford and also a 1520 JD, but the Ford worked better. Pa kept it for getting in small spots, doing Ma's garden, and to run 2 plows when we were going big time.

If you are looking for a heavy Oliver 3 bottom I have one. Think it has the CAT3 3 point but not 100% for sure.

I will let if got reasonable or trade for a good 6 or 7 foot 3 point disk.
