Removing a governor

If I take the governor off of the injection pump on my 88 diesel will I have to do anything with the timing? And is it just the 3 screws that hold it on?

On the PSB pump assembly there are five governor housing to pump housing bolts, and the control rod needs unhooked from the fuel control unit under the side cover too. Timing is not affected. Why do you want to remove the cover?

Like diesel tech said, 5 screws one which is by the lube line and it is nice to have a 1/4 inch drive 7/16 flex socket to take it off. Those screws are not all the same length either.

I need to take that off as the throttle shaft is getting stiff which is not allowing the shut off to be hooked thank you for the information I'll make sure I mark down which screw came from hole

A stiff governor shaft usually means the hydraulic head control unit is sticky, not a governor problem. Remove the two bolt side cover first, disconnect the governor arm, then check the control unit arm for free movement back and forth. It MUST move freely for the governor to work correctly, if not then that's where the trouble is..
