Which Manual

Which CAT service manual do I need for the motor in the 4-150? I saw something in a White/Cat supplement manual that the shop manual is CAT # REG01683 and the spec manual is CAT #REG01684. Are those numbers correct for one, and two are they still good numbers. Want to be able to call our Cat dealer monday and see if they can get me some books, but the counter guys down there are useless as a box of rocks if you cant give them a number to use.

Make sure you have a manual for a 3208 industrial engine not an automotive (truck ) engine. I think I gave mine away years ago.

There are so many variants of the 3208 cat engine that you will need the exact numbers from the serial plate on your LH rocker cover. Without the serial plate and all the numbers you are really hurting unless a real good cat mechanic can help you. This plate includes the serial number, AR ? identification rangement numbers and in some cases modification numbers. You will need all of these numbers to accurately purchase parts for your particular engine. I had three 2255 tractors (all 3208's) in my shop at one time and the engines all had different numbers. The horse powers on these tractors ranged from 159 to 178. In my case there was a considerable difference in production years.

I just use a generic service manual for the 3208 engine (within the right AR range) but I absolutely needed the exact parts book for each engine.

Good luck.
