Do you all like 3 point plows or trailer plows? Guy wants 250 for this one.

A man that helps my next door neighbor bought one like that but had all the coulters and cover boards for $250to use with his 550 for plow days. This is not mounted plow country.

When i was farming i liked the semi mounted
the best. It depends on what you wanted to
do on contour strips a trailer plow works
good but if you ever get stuck or have to
back one up not so good. A full mounted plow
if you have a wide front will stay fairly
level on a narrow front if the field is
rough the front end going up and down will
make the plow rise and fall . The semi
mounted will stay behind somewhat easier to
back up and will stay level plowing. The
most popular plows were the Oliver semi
mounted it seems everyone around here had
one no matter what tractor they liked.
There are a lot of four bottom semi mounted
plows around that can be made into three
however if your just showing and a little
plowing a full mounted would be the easiest.

We always used to figure we could pull more with a 3pt plow because of the weight transfer to the wheels.

I didn't even notice the coulter's. Thanks J. I mainly just collect. Might do a little plowing. Would like to get a plowing b going some day but there doesn't seem to be much interest.

(quoted from post at 08:37:37 05/12/17) Depends on location & market. Around here probably not worth $50. unless some jocky wanted to buy it.
Not a hole lot of Oliver's our here. Not many collectors either. Trying to save up for an 1855 but something else keeps taking my cash.

I remember about the time minimum tillage came in a lot of guys pulled the coverboards and coulters off to increase the amount of trash left on top. Cheap way to do it if you didn't have the power to pull a chisel plow.

I tipped a few acres with one like that. Pa got it when we had the Super 55D, but it had it's pants full on our side hills. Our main rig was a 4-16s Melroe behind a 2-70 and when we ran hard we'd run the 3 bottom Oliver on a 4600 Ford.
