770 -1550 engine

If the 770 had the pad cast on the block for the alternator support they are the same. At least 3 different blocks were used on 770 tractors. what do you have for casting numbers. I can not think of it at the minute.

J. I do not have the original block. My friend bought it without an engine. We would like to find an original engine or at least the block for it. Thanks, Paul

I have a 1555 gas that has a crankcase with the numbers:
160 918-A
185 320
Cast date 11244 (November 24, 1974)

The repair part number for this crankcase would be: 160 918-AS

Thanks. Would this one be a may 1 1970?
Any one know the casting numbers for a 1964 770? Thanks again..

Mine is the second built april 65 engine number 185 320
160 918
4295
Thats kinda odd if the date reads april 29 of 1965 then the engine was built after the tractor . It all looks original but it wasn't shipped out till August. But if that's original that should give a start point to the 1550 numbers if the did them in order. I was wondering if the 770 was built to 67 and mine is a 65 did they build the motors different the 1550 has a bigger bore or were they built all the same

In the late 50's or maybe 1960 improvements were made to the blocks for the Oliver 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines I would need to check and I lost that information on my computer but the last 3 numbers 304, 305 & 306 and 304 was not a 4 cylinder block. If I remember correctly the first 3 numbers were 104 and then there 104 and the is an A after the last number. Yes you are correct on when the block was poured.

Thank you for all the info. Think we got it kinda figured out. Would be nice to have a list of all the casting numbers and what they were put in.

Well I used to have a list from working for a dealer, but my grand kids got on my computer and now I need to think about where those blocks were used.

160918a should be right for the late 770. It just cost to much to get it hear.
At least now I know what to look for. I do have one with a cracked block. If any one has a good 160918a block please let me know. Prefer a 1964 to match vintage of tractor. Thanks Paul
