Paint for 2150

What paint are you folks using to repaint the 50 series Olivers ?
We are going to paint a 2150 that will not be used in the field.
Is dealer paint the way to go and can we use hardner in it? Maybe it would be better to use automotive paint?
We have restored other colors and know what works and what does not.
we have never used Oliver dealer paint.

agco paint with hardner is what i use, automotive paint might give a brighter better finish but pricey.used clearcoat (fleet farm) also with agco paint, couldnt hardly tell the difference, said dont dilute on can, which i didnt understand, sprayed hard and thick

I vote automotive. Single stage urethane or acrylic enamel will hold up to fuel and oil spills and shine longer than the dealer paint. I've mostly used Martin den our from Napa. They have a crossfire line of pair that is expensive, but not as bad as some of the others. If you have an account at Napa it will cost $250-300 for a gallon of paint, reducer, and hardener. Going to take a good bit to paint a 2150. I have also used paint from magnet paints. I think that the paint is good quality, I'ts held up very well for me, but the color is not as good of a match as the Martin senour.

The 2150 below was painted with automotive acrylic enamel reducer and hardner, the 1550 and 1365 were painted with Agco paint using reducer and hardner. We think the color of the 2150 is better than the Agco paint, but that may just be our personal preference. I'm not much of an artist, but you gotta use good hardner, or how ever much you spend per gallon on paint is money you've wasted, my 2 cents.

We don't paint anything that might be used again with base coat clear coat because of the cracking from vibration.

Mitch,

Those are beautiful tractors. I need to know where you live so I can bring my truck and load up that 1365 FWA !! Just kidding! I have always liked those 1365's - nice looking
utility tractors with "attitude".

Of course, who wouldn't love a 1550 or a 2150 ? Good stuff there !

I use the PPG Omni Acrylic enamel with the wet look hardener and enamel reducer. The good hardener is expensive but it sure makes the paint shine. For the paint, hardener, and reducer it's around $200 a gallon. I agree with Mitch on the base coat clear coat. A good painter can make the acrylic enamel look just as good as the clear coat. I think paint is just like most everything else, you get what you pay for.

Here is a rear weight that I painted part of it using Ago's version of white on the left and PPG Omni on the right side. I have never used the Agco Oliver green but there white has to much green tint for me.

i noticed the same green tint on my 2655 when i painted the wheel castings and rims. the old paint showing was almost pure white. i took the agco green tint paint back to the agco dealer and told them the paint was way off, nothing they could do about it . when home and saw the 34"castings i took off to replace with the 38", the paint was chipping off and sure enough, there was the same green tinted agco original paint underneeth, matching very close to the new paint. was i supprised!

I think that the AGCO may be closer to the original Clover White. When you look at one of Jack's Floyd County pics of a 2150, looks like alot of green to me in the Clover White.
