My NAPA books shows 1700 lube, 3110 for hydraulic. Diesel 99 takes 1111 lube, 3113 fuel, 3191 final fuel, 3110 hydraulic.

There is no oil filter for this engine. It has a bunch of wick style rings inside the canister. If for some reason you need to check it you are supposed to scrape the crud off it with a full butter knife. Put the canister back together and change the oil with sae 30 and run it. It's a bypass "filter" if you can call it that. It works fine. My 1937 28-44 has the same filter. Might have been scraped 10 times since new.

There were two alternatives. Only the 80s had the felt ring filters only, I believe.

My 90 has a cotton waste filled cage within the filter body, the cotton waste being replaceable.

Probably not as good as the felt from the point of view that some loose strands can steadily find their way to the sump - and would, over time, block the oil pick up screen - and may not be quite as effective at collecting the finest particles. But less likely to get blinded off completely. The other risk is that of losing the governor oil supply with a resultant disintegration! I don't recall the con rod rifle borings from big to small ends getting blocked, mind, which might be another possibility. Easy to know if the filter needs cleaning - the filter remains cold when the engine oil is hot.

The cannister has been changed for a paper element filter, by some, but I cannot recall the details at present. It still remains a bypass filter but they worked quite well, back in the days of non-precision bearings. I expect the felt ring pack could be changed, with ease, to a paper element.

(quoted from post at 03:51:54 04/18/17) What filter do I use for a 4 cyl. 99 Oliver?

My NAPA store called for a 1111 and that crossed to a 7511. It will be in tomorrow and I can see. A friend has an Oliver Special that he used a NAPA 1111 and he had kept the old filter. A canister with a 7/8" on each end.
This should be interesting.

My dad made some end plates that fit over the centre oil tube and fit top and bottom like the original cage so that he could use the same filter cartridge as the John Deere D that he already had.

Still works and collects all of the crud..
