I am looking into making a trip to Iowa to go to Dumont's and the Floyd county museums from western Pa. Do you have any suggestions on when to go and what else to do during the trip? Need to keep the better half interested, so non-tractor stuff would be good.

Thanks
Rich

I think Big Bud is still in Clarion, which would/could be on the way from Dumont's to Charles City.

Excellent museum and stuff there that's non-tractor related too.

National Farm Toy Museum in Dysersville

Depending on when you're going:
Iowa State Fair is the best state fair in the state!

Or Midwest Old Settlers/Thresher's

I'm sure I'm missing some good ones.

Living History Farm in Des Moines displays Iowa history from native American to the mid 20th century, mostly farm perspective. The staff lives there in era correct surroundings and activities during the summer months. A good day for a history buff. Plus you would want to eat at the Machine Shed restaurant on site. Good home style cooking.

If your coming in and hit the quad cities check out the music venues then there is the john deere museum rock island arsenal and hwy 80 truck museum . Largest truck stop im the world . Maybe take the better half shopping tanger outlet mall. In iowa city theres a mall with a carousel. If you can find it bluff lake catfish farm north of maquoketa iowa it's unforgettable dinnig experience then there is the grant wood hwy across iowa if you want to see more than semis and traffic doing 70 . whatever you do have fun and take pictures.

The Henry Ford Museum in Detroit is worth a day or two. Lots to see in Chicago for days and days. Gelena, Il, and Dubuque, IA are scenic.

Thanks a lot of good suggestions, we are flexible on travel dates, so it is nice to hear about seasonal activities.

New John Wayne Museum In Winterset Iowa, a little ways southwest of Des Moines Iowa, Covered Bridges of Madison county, If she is a big fan of that movie, Roseman Covered Bridge is southwest of town. There is a lot going on in Valley Junction, a suburb of Des Moines

The match stick museum in Gladbrook, Ia, might be of interest. Lots of things made with match sticks and glue. Gladbrook is in east central Ia. Google match stick museum Ia.look it over.

Rich, I would second the Heartland Museum in Clarion. We went in 2013 and there is something for everyone. You could also take in a sprint car race in Knoxville. The National Farm Toy Museum is a museum in Dyersville, Iowa isn't too bad to kill some time.
