Need some help here. My brother just bought a 2-70 at is stuck in reverse. This afternoon I removed the shifting level and the reverse fork is broke off. I am assuming I will need to remove the hydraulic unit. Will I be able to take the cap screws out of the shifting rail to get the fork out or ?? I am also going to need to find a for,, are they the same on the 1600, 1650 and 1655?

Any help is welcome,,thanks

I have a parts 2-70 here with the bearings bad on the top shaft but everything else is in the transmission.Think you're going t have to take off the hydraulic unit off the top of the transmission.I wasn't there when this one came off on this one the fellow that owned it and his hired man got to drinking one Sunday afternoon and decided to 'fix' the 2-70,couple years later I bought it they lost some of the small parts and bolts etc.Tractor only had about 1500 hrs on it.

Same as a 1655,yes. If the rod itself isn't broken, you can change the fork by only taking the hydraulic unit off. It gets a little trickier if you have to get the rod that it's bolted to out.

Don't forget to take out the two bolts on either side of the filter. It's a bugger to lift it off. There are two dowels, one in front on one side, one in back on the other side. One wants to stay in the top cover, the other wants to stay in the rear end and the pan gets stuck in between.

Thanks for the replies.
I never had one of these off before. Just got done pressure washing and will start to take the platform off this afternoon. Then I will get some timber in the pole shed rafters to lift the hydraulics off. I read in the IT manual that I need to drain the hydraulic fluid also. Thanks for the tip on the filter .

Hopefully a non eventful follow up tonight.

Best way to drain it is plug a hose in a remote, put it in a bucket, start it up and hold a lever and pump it out.

Ok, I got the broke one off the rod. Found a fork at a local salvage yard on the shelf.

Now what is the trick to get it in the collar and on the shaft.. Or will I need to remove the engine and pull the shifting rods out into the tub?

Thoughts

Will it pull back far enough to get it that way? If it had to come all the way out the front, then yes,the engine is in the way. I've never had to change a fork, but I changed one of the rods in my 1550. It wasn't easy, but I managed to get it in from the back. It's been a while, but I think you're gonna have to get in front and get the ball and spring out before you try to pull it back. My memory's not what it used to be.
