Engine Help on 550 Gasser

All,
I just put back together my exhaust, intake, manifold and carb for a restore. Didn't change any adjustments on the carb and didn't take it apart. Engine fired right up but will only stay running with choke pulled and throttle really isn't working at all. All linkage is re connected and no adjustments were ever made and governor wasn't messed with either. Any thoughts on what I could be missing to get the throttle to start controlling RPM and to run without choked?

2 things I'd look at first 1) you shook something loose in the carb or 2)a gasket leak at the head or between the carb and the intake manifold.Probably something in the carb

Thanks for the quick advice. I didn't replace gaskets when I put it back together as I hadn't ordered them yet. Figured it would be ok for testing. I am ordering new and will give that a try. Not sure where to start on the vacuum leak...

Never ever come across a vacuum leak. Always an air leak into the low pressure side! A vacuum will never leak to anywhere! Start by spraying gasket contact surfaces with an oil spray - running of engine will change momentarily, at least.
