Oliver 77 Pulling Engine Build

Like many folks, I'm doing an Oliver 77 engine build for Pulling, nothing to crazy, not going to do any stroking work at this time, would like to end up in around 80+ HP range when the dust all settles. I've starting with a stock 193ci gas engine, have purchased a 3 3/4 inch overbore kit from Korves to install, as well as 1550 Exhaust manifold, intake manifold and Head. Have sent the head to machine shop for rebuild, looking for advise as to how much I should have planed off the head to increase compression, and what carb would work best for this set up? Bill

when I say 80HP that would be an approximation, and since the PTO shaft and clutch assembly has already been removed from the tractor to help reduce weight, I'll really never know what the HP output will be after the build is complete. I think most engine builders who build motors for pulling have some approx idea of what an engine will put out, based on the changes (improvements being made)what piston are being installed, what head, manifold, intake and carb work is being done, any cam and stroke changes to the bottom end.

An Oliver 1550 is rated at 54 hp at PTO speed, unless you are going to run more RPM than a 1550, or stroke the crank, I don't see how you are going to get 80 hp.

Rich, You gain a lot of power through your head, Valves, cam, compression and fuel. bore and stroke don't necessarily play a big factor on Gasoline engines.

Hey Ollie 88D, I'd certainly like to view the videos you sent me the link for, however you have to be accepted first as part of that Oliver Tractor group, I've sent my request to join the group but no response as yet. Do you know who the looks after that group?
