Did the 1600 utility have different gearing? My 1600 runs very fast in 5th and 6th compared to my other Olivers. It probably runs as fast in 5th as my 1650 Wheatland runs in 6th.

Sounds like you have the high speed transmission. Or maybe all utilities had them. Check the digits after the dash on serial number. Someone else should be able to clarify it for you.

I have 2 of the 1600 utility models. They are fast. Will leave my 1650 in its dust on the road. Did you put the 1655 diesel engine and over/under in one of them? With that overdrive unit it will probably run 30 plus mph. Make sure your steering is tight if you operate in on the highway

From the Operator Manual dated 3-3-63:
[b:654c4848f0]Row Crop[/b:654c4848f0] W/15.5 x 38 tire, 6th gear 13.57 Mph.
[b:654c4848f0]Industrial[/b:654c4848f0] W/16.9 x 28 tire, 6th gear 18.22 Mph.
[b:654c4848f0]Wheatland[/b:654c4848f0] W/16.9 x 30 tire, 6th gear 13.05 Mph.
[b:654c4848f0]Utility[/b:654c4848f0] W/13.6 x 28 tire, 6th gear 17.79 Mph.

These speeds are at rated engine speed 1900 RPM, High idle is 2100 RPM, thus at High Idle increase the travel speeds by 10%.

Both of my 1600 utilities have the 604 transmission code. 16.9 x 28 rubber. Very fast. Don't know which I like the best the 1600 or 1550/55 utilities. Very nimble tractors.
