The cheaper ones are made in China. The ones from Maple Springs are not china built. What kind of a warranty does the ebay starter have? I have bought several parts from Maple Springs and would reccommend them, they have quality parts and don't sell any junk. they stand behind what they sell. My 2 cents

"The ones from Maple Springs are not china built."
Are you sure about that? Have you called and asked them about that?
I'm always leery about new starters and alternators (or other parts) that say they are Made in USA. For example, I recently bought a new fuel pump. In small letters on the box, it says "Made in Mexico. Packaged in Canada". However, there's a big sticker on the side of the box that says "ASSEMBLED IN CANADA", along with the red and white Canadian maple leaf.
I have no idea if your Maple Springs parts are foreign made or not, but I suspect they are made elsewhere and packaged domestically.
You are free to prove me wrong, however.

I talked to the maple springs guys at a show, and they told me specifically their starters are not made in china.

Give them a call, they will explain the reason for the price difference. 608-658-2072

Thanks for the update, I'll keep their starters in mind.
Since I don't have an application that needs a starter right now, I won't be calling them. are saying that their starters are 100% American made?

Its probably more like the JD tractors 'made' in Georgia, JD buys major components from all over the World and then bolts them together in GA so they can claim they are 'made' in the USA
Is there actually a factory in the USA that really manufactures these starter components? If so why isn't their name stamped on the starter? Ebay is full of sellers that buy cheap things in bulk from China sellers repackages and resells them, nothing wrong with that but you may as well buy from the China sellers to start with.

Your post is probably the one that has the most truth to it. (Unless I hear otherwise from the starter company who claims their starter is American-made)
I hate to go back to my post where the product has a HUGE foreign-made content and yet has a domestically-made sticker on it, but I'm suspecting a misleading product. I'm not going to comment on my occupation on this post, but we get a product at work that has a huge sticker on it that says "Designed and engineered in the U.S.A". It even has an outline of the United States on the box. In very small print, it also says "Made in China". The irony is that the design and engineering for this product may have been completed decades ago and all the engineers are now dead. Okay, I'm off my soap box now. While I try to buy a domestic product, I'm guilty of (occasionally) buying a foreign-made product when a domestic one is available. I promise to do better in the future.

"Cheap" ebay starter is guaranteed for 1 year,Maple Springs starter is guaranteed for 1 year so they both must think they have the same quality starter.I have one of the ebay starters that's been on my 1550 diesel for 3 years with no problem. What factory in the USA builds these starters for Maple Springs? Location? Really looking at the pictures of both the biggest difference is
the end of the Maple Springs starter is painted green.
