What did I get myself into?

Hi all,

I normally do not visit the Oliver site

I just brought home an Oliver well used OL4-3d diesel bulldozer. Is this the correct forum to use to ask for help? It's hard starting, smokes a lot. It's runs cold.

I'd appreciate any comments from the Oliver crawler owners. I have zero experience with this and feel lost and intimidated.

Sorry, NO Oliver experience, but you'll find a lot of good information at TractorData.com - http://www.tractordata.com/farm-
tractors/001/8/1/1816-oliver-oc-4.html

Hope this helps.

Dr Walt,

I had been to tractordata but that's about all I've found so far but I just started search for info.

Thanks for the reply Doc...

The first thing we need is a serial number. There are 2 series of those tractors, the early ones which were built in the Cleveland Ohio factory. That plant was closed and later production called the series B tractor were built in Charles City Iowa the same as the Oliver wheel tractors. Engines are all 3 cylinder Hercules Diesels but there are differences between the tractors built in the 2 factories. Post a picture your e-mail and we will try to help you.

If you don't get the help you need here, you can try the crawler forum. I don't go there myself, but I assume there are folks there who can help.

J. Schwiebert Sir,

Thanks you very much for your reply.

The serial number is 1WD-128-3D. I think it is a Hercules engine. I will take photo's later today and post them.

wow! So why did you buy it?

You bought something some people were very proud of. They really tried to put out products people needed.

The OC4 was made from 1957 thru 1965. That is a series 1, built in 1958 which is the first year for the 3 cyl. engine. The 1957 and early 1958 continued to used the 4 cyl. engine from the OC3.
You have the 3 bottom roller track frame which not many OC4s have. One could order either 3 or 4 rollers.

The goto forum for Oliver Crawlers is Cletrac.org.
