Another set of eyes

I went to a consignment auction a few years back and wound up buying an Oliver 1365 for $800 dollars. It was not running and they said that It needed a starter.

After I got it home I tried to start it but it would just barely turn over with the starter even after I replaced the battery. It started rear quick when I pulled it and ran perfectly. While I was musing as to where I could get a starter for it my SIL who was visiting said casually that it looked like there was a number 24 stamped on the glow plugs. Another 12 volt battery and some cables and it was good to go.

Are you sure you don't really have a 1250 diesel? They have glow plus and 24 volt starting while the 1365 is a 12 volt system with no glow plugs!

If you look on the right side of the head and sticking straight out from the head the glow plugs are there with a strip of metal connecting them all then its a 1250.

You could be right. I sold that tractor about 50 mils away and the next time I am near there I will stop and check. I looked at my sales slip and I had put down that it was a 1365 diesel but that does not mean much. The man who bought it stops here once in a while and he loves that old Oliver.

I did not mean to get into a fact checking dispute but wanted to show how something simple can cause a lot of unnecessary problems. No doubt the person who sold the machine had given up on getting it to start right, thus the low selling price. I can assure you that I did not sell it for $800.

Nice you have another set of eyes that can see. Most today glaze over at any mention of a mechanical problem. Simple machines often have simple fix's if you can figure out what the can do people before you did do? It's entirely possible you do have the tractor you think it is and the tractor others are fact checking you on.

That Johnny Cash song (one piece at a time) wasn't just funning to farmers of the depression era...many probably didn't see it as humorous. :)

It's funny, according to a book I have Oliver began in 1929.
