Coop E4 starts hard??

My coop E4 starts hard, starts good if I put my hand over the carburetor. Do all these have the autolite starter that looks like a gear reduction one. Off set? seems to turn over slow on 12volt.

Check and see if the choke plate is closing with the air cleaner hose off, if not that would explain why it would start when using your hand on the carb. Some choke plates have a spring loaded door, if the spring across it is broken or missing that will cause your trouble too.

They were 6 volt, and slow. The choke plate has a round disk with a tiny spring to hold it closed. Spring could be broken or missing.
