changing to alternator from generator on Super A

I've heard so much on how to change over from generator to alternator I'm not sure where to begin. I like the idea of using the small alternator and not having to mess up hood. first: what needs to come off tractor to begin this project ( Gen,6V coil, voltage regulator and 6 V battery?). Second: will this still be a positive ground using a 12 V batt. Third: will this effect the 6V lights and what about the charging gauge? What kind of SMALL alternator should I be looking for. I saw on another topic something about nisson or small cars using small alternator. can someone give step by step simple instructions on how to rewire to make this work. Thanks. Pembroke

You will almost certainly need to change to 12V and negative earth if not already. Coil need not be changed but would need a ballast resistor fitting in the wiring. Ammeter would
clearly need connections swapping round. 6V bulbs will require changing (unless pairs are run in series instead of parallel). Modern alternators have their own built in voltage/
current regulation so the old voltage reg would not be needed in circuit. If your battery were brand new, you might buy another and wire in series, but generally a single 12V battery
is employed.

You will almost certainly need new bracketry to arrange for pulleys to line up and most likely a new drive belt. The belt section may not suit the new generator (yes, both dynamos
and alternators are generators), so a new drive pulley may be required. Sundry wiring for the higher output generator may be required as well.

Basically easy if planned carefully and carried out proficiently.

I just put an alternator on a 300. A Delco 10si will fit your
super A fine. Should have plenty of room. You need to change to a
12v volt coil or add a ballast resister to the six volt coil.

The battery needs to be changed to a negative ground.

The AMP meter is most likely a 20-20. You may want to change to a
30-30 or 60-60. The two large wires on the back need to be swapped
or the amp meter will read backwards.

The light bulbs will need changed.
